New version! - InSync is easy and reliable folder and file synchronizer software for Windows that allows you to rapidly make identical copies of folder structures and all files within. Its function are primarily targetted to backup, data distribution, and multi-computer data synchronization. Three modes are supported: 1-way sync, 2-way sync, and backup modes. This is useful in performing backups and propagating data from one machine to another.
Using InSync you can define and run multiple synchronization jobs that can specify one or more source folders, each of which can be synchronized to one or more target folders. InSync uses state of the art techniques to copy only files which are different between source and target folders. It also takes advantage of multi thread processing, allowing parallel processing of multiple jobs. All file system types are supported using conventional or universal naming convention (UNC) file names. This allows you to access all local and network folders. A built-in scheduler interface is provided allowing automation of InSync execution.
InSync has three modes of operation, 1-way sync mode, 2-way sync mode, and backup mode. Each is intended to serve a different purpose. The following table describe each in detail. These modes can be selected and applied at the job, source folder, or destination folder level. A job, for example, can contain multiple source folders each handled using a different mode.
1-Way Sync mode, often referred to as mirroring, has the objective of making the target folder an exact copy of the source folder. Files or folders that exist in the target folder, but not in the source folder, are deleted. Files and folders that exist only in the source folder, or that differ in their attributes, sizes or last modification dates are replaced in the target folder with their source folder counterparts. Older versions of InSync only supported this mode.
2-Way Sync mode is used to merge the source and destination folder such that both end up containing the most recently updated file. If files or folders exist in the source but not in the destination folder then they are copied to the destination. If files or folders exist in the destination but not in the source folder then they are copied to the source. If a file or folder exists in both source and destination folders then the more recent is copied over the older file or folder.
Backup mode is similar to 1-way sync mode except that files that exist in the destination but not the source folder are not deleted. Files or folder that exist only in the source folder or that are more recent in the source folder are copied to the destination folder.
Simple set up, management, and scheduling of synchronization jobs.
One-way, 2-way, and backup synchronization of files and sub-folders from Source to Target Folder.
Optimized to copy only those files that are actually different, minimizing data transfer and network load.
Concurrent execution of multiple synchronization jobs.
High-performance implementation focussed on backup and mirroring.
Preservation of NTFS permissions, ownership, and group information. (Requires administrator privilege.)
Supports FAT, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS, CDFS, and UDF file systems on any type of storage media including external Hard Disk, Zip Disk, USB Drive, CD-RW, DVD, NAS, Workstation, Laptop, Desktop, Server, LAN, WAN, VPN, or Network.
Supports international character sets in folder and file names.
Supports long path names that exceed the usual 260 character Windows limit.
Supports backup and synchronization of locked files on NTFS. (Requires administrator privilege and Windows XP, Windows Vista, Server 2003, server 2008.)
Supports native 64-bit execution for best performance on 64-bit operating systems.
